Ace Law serves clients in Cypress and throughout the Houston area. Cypress is unusual among the places in this section for a reason worth understanding: it is not a city at all. It is an unincorporated part of Harris County, and that changes several practical things.
County: Harris
Cypress has a name, a postal designation and a strong local identity, but no city government. It is unincorporated Harris County. The consequences are concrete rather than academic: there is no city police department and no municipal court. County law enforcement covers the area, and matters go to the county rather than to a city. People are frequently surprised by this, usually at the least convenient moment — after an incident, when they are trying to work out who to contact.
The compensation for the confusion above is that Cypress is entirely within Harris County. Unlike Katy or Pearland, there is no three-county puzzle to solve first. Whatever else is uncertain about a matter arising in Cypress, the county is not.
The Cypress area has grown very quickly along the U.S. 290 corridor, and the traffic has grown with it. The injury matters we hear about from here follow that pattern: collisions on 290 and the arterials feeding it, in a place where the road network has been playing catch-up with the housing for years. As elsewhere, the road and the speed matter more to how a claim develops than the name on the address.
Much of Cypress is recently built and recently occupied, which means a lot of households with young children, first mortgages and no will. It is an unglamorous observation but a useful one: the estate planning that matters most is usually the simplest, and it is almost always the thing that gets postponed.
