Katy straddles Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties. Two neighbours on the same street can have the same mailing address and fall under different county jurisdictions. That matters, because which county a matter belongs to affects where it is filed and handled — and it is not something you can work out from the address alone. When someone from Katy calls, establishing the county is usually one of the first practical questions, and it is not a question most people can answer off the top of their head.
A large share of Katy works somewhere else — the Energy Corridor, downtown, the west side — and gets there on Interstate 10 or the Grand Parkway. That daily distance shapes the injury matters we hear about from Katy: highway collisions rather than neighbourhood ones, often at speed, often involving commercial vehicles on a corridor that carries a great deal of freight.
